The Federation of Children's Book GroupsThe Federation of Children’s Book Groups

What is the Federation?

The Federation is a national, voluntary organisation concerned with children and their books. Its aim is to promote enjoyment and interest in children's books and reading, and to encourage the availability of a range of literature for all ages, from pre-school to teenage. The Federation liaises with schools, playgroups, publishers, libraries and other official bodies.

How did the Federation begin?

The idea of a parents' organisation that would promote enthusiasm for and
about children's books began in 1965 when Anne Wood set up the first Book
Group. By 1968 more groups were established and the Federation of Children's
Book Groups was created, linking these groups across the British Isles.
In 2003 the Federation celebrated its 35th birthday
.
