Happy New Year!
Chris Bradford, 27th February at Aylsham Lodge Hotel, 7pm for 7.30pm start. This year gets off to a great start with a visit from the extraordinary Chris Bradford of Samurai Warriors fame. We’ve been trying to organise a visit from Chris for a while, we’ve have heard that his events really are extraordinary!
Have a look at his website (http://www.chrisbradford.co.uk) to get an idea of what to expect. Swords WILL be wielded, but we are assured that health and safety regulations will be adhered to!
This is an unmissable event and will be enjoyed by boys and girls and mums and dads and grandmas and grandpas. The evening is suitable for 9 year olds and up. The Young Samurai series is especially popular with Y7/Y8s.
Michael Grant, 20th March at Aylsham Lodge Hotel, 7pm for 7.30pm start.Michael Grant (http://themichaelgrant.com) is coming! If you have read the extraordinary series ‘Gone!’, which begins with every adult disappearing - you’ll know what an amazing writer Michael is. He also wrote a very popular series called Animorphs with his wife Katherine Applegate. He’s coming all the way from Southern California to our corner of Norfolk - and we are very excited! Pass the word round to all the teenagers you know - it would be great to see a good crowd for this event.
Teachers - please let us know if you would like to bring a group of students.
As usual both events are free to members and their families. Non members - Adults £3 and children £1. Either reply to this email or ring Norfolk Children’s Book Centre on 01263 761402 to book places.
Keep 27th March free for a return visit from hyper-energetic and hilarious
Steve Cole. Steve is well known as a Doctor Who writer and fanatic, and creator of the Astrosaurs and Cows in Action series. His books for older readers are building in popularity so this event will be pretty wide-ranging.We’re expecting children from 7 up - and Doctor Who fans too of course! His new website (http://www.stevecolebooks.co.uk) is great fun. Time and venue to follow.
AND - we’ve finally been promised a return visit from David Almond in September - watch this space!Conference 2012 – 13th-15th April, Bradfield College, Reading
As you may know we raise money selling raffle tickets at each event each year to provide bursaries for members of our group to attend the Federation of Children’s Book Group’s annual conference. For the next conference in 2012 we can afford to send two members who haven’t had a bursary from us in the past. It’s a wonderful experience, an opportunity to meet other book enthusiasts and to hear a wealth of authors talk about their work. Check out the details on the Federation of Children’s Book Groups website http://www.fcbg.org.uk/conferenceThere are usually nine or ten of NNCBG members already going so you needn’t feel nervous that you won’t know anyone. All you need to do to apply is write a short paragraph in an enthusiastic vein and send it to Gwynneth Bailey, Great Wood Cottage, Marsham, Norwich, Norfolk NR10 5QQ. Email gwynneth60@hotmail.co.uk
Applications should reach Gwynneth by Saturday 10th December so the lucky winner can be drawn out of the hat at the AGM. Don’t forget the AGM is at Norfolk Children’s Book Centre on Tuesday 13th December at 7.30pm – all members welcome.
